Police deny social media robbery report in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has denied the purported rumour of an armed robbery incident and arrest of six suspects in Ikoyi, Lagos, describing it as untrue.

This is coming after a robbery case in Ikoyi on the 17th of June, 2020 in which six suspects were said to have been arrested. The command described the report as “false, mischievous and misleading.”

The command explained that some Lagos Waste Management Agency, LAWMA, used their truck to block another vehicle that they had earlier misunderstood with its driver thereby causing a traffic gridlock.

The Command further explained that as the two parties were arguing, a military patrol team passing by and caught in the artificial gridlock, went to find out what caused the traffic, arrested all those involved in causing the obstruction and handed them over the police.

In a statement signed by the Command’s Force Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, noted that no robbery incident took place or arms/ammunition recovered from anybody as speculated.
He said that the six suspects arrested were traffic offenders and not armed robbers contrary to the social media report.

The command advised members of the public to ignore the report and about their lawful businesses. It also reassured all law abiding people of the state of its preparedness to protect their lives and property.
