Gov Ododo approves reconstruction of 50-year-old Amuro Community Secondary School

The Kogi State Government has approved the complete reconstruction of Amuro Community Secondary School in Mopamuro Local Government Area as part of efforts to improve educational infrastructure and provide better learning conditions for students across the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the project would be implemented under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE).

According to Fanwo, the intervention will provide a new Model Secondary School comprising facilities for both the Junior Secondary School and Senior Secondary School sections.

The AGILE project is supported by the World Bank and implemented in collaboration with the Kogi State Government to expand access to quality education and create improved learning opportunities for students.

Fanwo said the reconstruction was particularly significant because Amuro Community Secondary School is one of the oldest secondary schools in Kogi West, having been established more than 50 years ago.

He said the complete reconstruction would replace the ageing infrastructure with a modern learning environment capable of supporting both students and teachers.

“The Amuro Community Secondary School is one of the oldest secondary schools in Kogi West, having existed for over 50 years. Its complete reconstruction will provide a modern learning environment for students and teachers in the community,” Fanwo said.

He explained that the approval formed part of the state government’s broader programme, through the Ministry of Education, to rebuild old schools and renovate others across Kogi State.

Fanwo said the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo remained committed to strengthening the state’s education sector by investing in infrastructure and creating conducive environments for teaching and learning.

He added that the intervention would further support the state’s efforts to ensure that students, particularly in communities with ageing school facilities, have access to improved educational infrastructure.

The reconstruction of the Amuro school under the World Bank-supported AGILE programme is expected to provide a more suitable environment for learning while accommodating the Junior and Senior Secondary School components of the institution.
