Group: Tinubu’s support for Ododo reflects APC’s values for performance

The Kogi Progressive Youth Movement has described President Bola Tinubu’s support for the second-term bid of Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, as evidence of the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) commitment to rewarding performance and promoting continuity in governance.

The group said the President’s backing was consistent with his position that first-term APC governors who had demonstrated capacity should be allowed to seek a second term and consolidate the gains of their administrations.

In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by Hon. Obasun Samuel, the group said Tinubu’s support for Ododo was particularly significant because, according to it, the governor had demonstrated commitment to the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda through ongoing development projects and interventions across Kogi State.

“His achievements deserve continuity, and the support of Mr. President for his second-term bid is a clear indication that the APC remains committed to rewarding performance and strengthening good governance at the sub-national level,” Obasun said.

He said Ododo had embraced the President’s vision and was translating the benefits of the Federal Government’s reforms into tangible development in the state.

The group cited the ongoing development of the International Airport and Ultra-Modern Market, alongside investments in healthcare, roads and other critical infrastructure, as evidence of the administration’s focus on delivering projects with direct impact on residents.

According to Obasun, the opportunity for Ododo to seek a second term would enable the governor to consolidate ongoing projects and sustain what the group described as the development trajectory of the state.

He also commended Tinubu and the APC leadership for supporting the principle of allowing first-term governors to pursue a second term, particularly where they had demonstrated capacity and delivered meaningful results.

“Governors are the leaders of the party in their respective states and deserve the opportunity to lead the party into elections after their first term, especially where they have demonstrated capacity and delivered meaningful results,” he said.

Obasun argued that the arrangement would also allow first-term governors to devote greater attention to governance and service delivery rather than becoming distracted by prolonged internal party contests over succession.

He further praised Tinubu’s political experience and leadership of the APC, saying the President’s understanding of party organisation, strategy and governance had contributed to strengthening the party and promoting stability.

“Today, Nigeria has a President who combines strong technocratic credentials with exceptional political experience. His understanding of party organisation, political strategy and governance has continued to strengthen the APC and promote stability within the party,” he said.

The group said Tinubu’s support for Ododo should therefore be viewed not merely as political endorsement but as an indication of confidence in the governor’s ability to continue delivering on his administration’s agenda.

Obasun expressed confidence that the President’s backing would further strengthen the APC in Kogi State and provide the political stability required for the administration to pursue its development programmes.

“President Tinubu has once again demonstrated capacity, consistency and leadership. Jagaban is OK for Nigeria. Ododo is OK for Kogi,” he said.

He added that the President’s support had provided a clear direction for the APC in Kogi, while urging party members and supporters to remain united around the objective of sustaining development in the state.

“With the massive support of Mr. President for Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, the message is clear: the APC is united, the direction is clear, and the work of delivering more development to the people of Kogi State continues,” Obasun said.
