AMJON, MWUN forge alliance for maritime sector growth

The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) on Wednesday 20 August paid a courtesy visit to the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) leadership at its national secretariat in Lagos.

The maritime journalists congratulated the new President-General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, on his election victory and pledging to work together for the growth of the maritime sector.

The AMJON delegation comprising of Vera Osokpor, Vice President; Segun Oladipupo, Secretary; Ugochukwu Ezurike, Asst. Secretary; Barnabas Esiet, Treasurer; Tedunjaye Raymond, Financial Secretary; Uzor Odigbo, PRO; and Rhoda Ogunseye, Welfare Officer, visited the Union to congratulate Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, alongside his hardworking executives.

In a release signed by MWUN Head of Media, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, AMJON leadership expressed their commitment to working with the MWUN President-General, commending him for his straightforward approach and press-friendly demeanor, and promised to maintain a positive and respectful relationship with him in the maritime sector.

AMJON further wished him well in his onerous journey towards piloting the affairs of such a big Union as the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, which her immense contributions toward the growth of Nigeria’s economy cannot be overemphasized.

Welcoming his guests, Comrade Bunu thanked the journalists for their visit, promising continued support for AMJON and highlighting the importance of a collaborative relationship between the union and the press.

As a seasoned maritime expert and veteran sailor, Bunu emphasized the role of journalists as industry watchdogs and encouraged them to maintain a balanced approach to reporting, avoiding sensationalism and upholding the principles of fairness and justice.

The MWUN boss assured that the Union’s door is always open at any time towards making sure the synergy continues to wax stronger.
