Shippers’ Council directors, heads attend PMS workshop to drive institutional excellence

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has organized a Performance Management System (PMS) workshop for its Directors, Deputy Directors, and Heads of Units, underscoring its commitment to institutional efficiency and alignment with the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy’s policy goals.

The workshop follows the recent signing of a Performance Bond by NSC led by the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Akutah Pius, MON, aimed at cascading performance targets across staff cadres.

Facilitator Prof. Adeyemi Ajayi emphasized the programme’s potential to strengthen staff capacity and enhance the Council’s overall performance, supporting NSC’s drive for a performance-based culture marked by efficiency and accountability.

Speaking at the opening session, the Director of Human Resources Management, Mr. Ahmed Garta, highlighted the significance of the PMS framework to the Council’s operations. He urged participants to approach the training with seriousness and to demonstrate commitment to achieving measurable outcomes.

Prof. Ajayi, provided extensive insights into the principles and practices of performance management.

He expressed optimism that the programme would not only strengthen staff capacity but also translate into tangible improvements in the Council’s overall performance.

The NSC noted that the initiative is part of its broader drive to entrench a performance-based culture, where efficiency and accountability define service delivery.
