Peter Eze gets senate nod as FCC commissioner, brings proven integrity, expertise to service

Eze, an accomplished economist and public administrator, was nominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and screened by the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs.

The Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs in its report presented by the chairman of the committee, Senator Allwell Heacho Onyesoh(Rivers East), described Eze as “eminently qualified, competent, and an individual of proven integrity”.

Eze’s appointment is expected to strengthen the FCC’s capacity to review outdated statutes and harmonize them with current realities.

Senator Onyesoh told the Senate that Peter Eze, FCC Executive Chairman-designate Hon. Ayo Hulayat Omidiran, and 36 other nominees were thoroughly screened on November 13, 2025.

The chairman stated, “The committee did not receive any criminal petitions on any nominee. They all appeared before us, submitted the required documents, and demonstrated capacity for the roles they were nominated for.”

The vetting process of the nominees included reviewing curriculum vitae, Code of Conduct clearance certificates, police reports, DSS screening reports, and other eligibility documents. Each nominee made a formal presentation and participated in an extensive Q&A session.

Onyesoh added that all 37 nominees submitted by President Tinubu, representing the 36 states and the FCT, met the constitutional qualifications to serve in the Commission.

Presenting the committee’s findings, Senator Onyesoh described the nominees— including Peter Eze— as “eminently qualified, competent, and individuals of proven integrity,” adding that Eze displayed a deep understanding of the FCC’s mandate and the reforms required to strengthen the commission.

“The committee found them eminently qualified. His appointment will strengthen the capacity of the Federal Character Commission to review outdated statutes and harmonise them with current realities,” he said.

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved the motion for the Senate to dissolve into the Committee of the Whole to consider the nominees.

Supporting the motion, Deputy Minority Leader Senator Olalere Oyewumi stated:

“I rise to support their nomination. From their résumé, they have held different positions both locally and internationally. I thank Mr President for finding them worthy.”

Following the motion, the Senate dissolved into the Committee of the Whole to consider each nominee. After a state-by-state review with no objections raised, the committee adopted the report and reverted to plenary.

Senat President Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio subsequently subjected the nominations to a voice vote, with all nominees receiving unanimous approval.

President Tinubu had earlier announced Eze’s inclusion among the Commissioners in a statement issued by Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.

Eze, an accomplished economist and public administrator, brings a robust background in international business, corporate governance, and public service. A native of Aji in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, he currently serves as Executive Assistant to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, contributing to political, developmental, and philanthropic initiatives.

He is also a recipient of several honours, including the Most Outstanding Student Award (UIBE, 2019), Rotary International Leadership Excellence Award (2023), and the China-Nigeria Friendship Award (2022).

Eze’s professional journey spans notable roles such as Head of the International Desk at Chinese CEO Group in Beijing; Executive Secretary at the Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation; Special Correspondent with The Sun Newspapers; Director of Procurement and Logistics at Slok Nigeria Ltd; Director of Strategy at The Sun Publishing Ltd; and Director of Operations at The New Telegraph.

Until his appointment, he headed Bullion Standard Nigeria Ltd, overseeing mining, importation, production, and international partnerships.

With strengths in economic policy, strategic management, development planning, and institutional reform, Eze is widely regarded as a strategic addition to the Federal Character Commission.
