NSC builds leadership pipeline with succession planning initiative

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council is strengthening its leadership pipeline with a succession-planning workshop for middle managers in Lagos.

The Executive Secretary/CEO of NSC, Dr. Akutah Pius, MON, who gave the clarification stated that the initiative aims to tackle the looming leadership gap, boosting the Council’s readiness for future organisational needs.

Dr. Akutah, who was represented by the Director, Consumer Affairs Department, Mrs. Ify Okolue, described the Council’s vision of “competent, confident and future-ready” leaders.

“We need a deliberate, structured and merit-driven process to identify the next generation of leaders for the Council,” he said.

Also speaking, the Director. Human Resources Management Department, Mustapha Zubairu, emphasized the strategic importance of the succession-planning programme, especially as senior-level retirements continue to create gaps. He also emphasised that the initiative would ensure continuity of the Council’s programmes and overall organisational stability.

A paper on “Evolution of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council and the Nigerian Shippers’ Council and the Nigerian Port Economic Regulatory Agency (NPERA) Bill,” was presented by Joy Bridget Dimka (Senior Legal Officer) for Mr. Emeka Okereke (Deputy Director, Legal Services).

It spotlighted NSC’s role as port economic regulator and pushed for NPERA to boost seaport oversight. This workshop fits into NSC’s plan to boost capacity and leadership.
