N50,000 fine awaits drivers of unlatched trucks, as FRSC commences Operation Scorpion II

The Oyo State Command  of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has renewed call for trucks carrying containers to be latched, stating that offenders would be made to pay N50,000 fine.

The Sector Commander of the state, Chukwurah Uche, who disclosed this to journalists on Monday said the command has  commenced Operation Scorpion II targeted at trucks with unlatched containers.

The exercise which  he said would inculcate in drivers and their assistants the culture of always hooking up firmly thier trucks to containers they are to move to its destination would end on Aug.16.

Unlatched trucks

Uche said; “This Operation Scorpion II is about enforcing the law that says all trucks carrying containers are latched before plying the road.

“We are all aware of what happened on July 26 in Lagos  where a young lady lost her life as a result of unlatched container falling on a vehicle from a truck.

“So any unlatched vehicle arrested will be booked for dangerous driving and fined N50,000.

” We are also going to be looking out for their driver’s licence, expired tyre and  wrongful overtaking.”
She emphasised that the Corps would not trivialize other road traffic offences that could cause crashes on the road.

The exercise according to the sector commander would be conducted in the mornings and evenings, while a mobile court would sit on Wednesdays and Fridays to try traffic offenders.

Owners of trucks conveying containers are therefore advised to ensure that their vehicles were properly latched from the point of leaving to avoid regrets.
