The general saying that youths are the leaders of tomorrow seems but a lullaby in Nigeria parlance, as the old continue to recycle themselves in power, but in Ebonyi state it has come to be real as a 27 year old emerges a local government chairman.
On May 29, 2020, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Nwaeze Umahi swore in Chima Okechukwu, 27 years as the Transition Committee Chairman,Afikpo South LGA.
The young Okechukwu may have prepared himself for leadership early enough, as he has been in close tab with it as early as his primary school days.
Born on October 19,1992, young Okechukwu was also a head boy in his secondary school days, during his University education at the Abia State University Uturu, where he graduated in 2015, with a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration, his leadership aura came calling
He was the President of the Faculty’s students body,HUMSSA ( Humanities and Social Science Students Association). A body that coordinates students of the departments that made up the Faculty.
Having also served as Special Assistant on Political Matters to the former Chairman of the LGA, Barr. Eni Uduma Chima, immediately after his National Youths Service Corps has given him the opportunity to garner the necessary experience in a quick succession.
Even as some younger governors, ministers and Commissioners have abysmally failed, there are other youths who have performed wonderfully well in Nigeria.
Whether OKechukwu would be counted among the performers who have exhibited pedigree, hard work and astuteness, and have proven that Nigerian youths have all it takes to reposition the country or among failures, time will tell.
