Lagos 2027: Lanre Jim-Kamal to launch governorship campaign April 25

As political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Otunba Lanre Jim-Kamal, has announced plans to formally launch his governorship campaign for Lagos State on April 25, 2026.

The campaign flag-off is scheduled to take place at the Police College Ground in Ikeja, where the aspirant is expected to officially declare his bid for the state’s top office under the APC platform.

Jim-Kamal, a businessman and grassroots politician, had earlier made his intention known on April 2 in Ikeja, setting the stage for what he describes as a people-oriented governorship ambition.

Aspirant Positions Self as Unifier

In a formal letter of intent submitted through his ward in Kosofe Local Government Area to the Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, Jim-Kamal said his aspiration is driven by a commitment to progressive governance, inclusiveness, and sustainable development.

“My decision to seek this noble office is driven by an unwavering commitment to the progressive ideals of good governance, economic prosperity, social inclusion, and sustainable development for all,” he stated.

He described Lagos as Nigeria’s economic nerve centre, stressing the need for visionary leadership that can consolidate past gains while opening new opportunities for residents.

The aspirant also presented himself as a “bridge builder,” pledging to promote unity within the party and across the diverse communities in the state.

“My aspiration is not merely about occupying office; it is about providing leadership that inspires trust, fosters unity, and mobilises the collective talents of our people,” he added.

Background and Political Profile

Jim-Kamal, an indigene of Lagos from the Awori ethnic group, is a graduate of the University of Lagos and also holds a Master’s degree from a United States-based institution. He is the Chairman/CEO of Nigerturk Consortium International Company Limited, with business interests spanning oil, mining, and construction.

His political journey dates back to 1988 when he was called upon to contest for the chairmanship of the then Ikeja Local Government shortly after completing his National Youth Service.

He has also highlighted concerns over what he described as the marginalisation of indigenous groups in the state’s development trajectory.

Jim- Kamal’s Policy Promises

As part of his agenda, the governorship hopeful has outlined key policy priorities, including free healthcare and education at all levels, with a strong emphasis on technical and vocational training.

He also pledged to upgrade existing health centres to general hospitals, improve security through enhanced policing, boost employment opportunities, and expand social welfare programmes for the elderly beyond stipends.

Commitment to Party Ideals

Jim-Kamal reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, pledging to abide by the party’s constitution and processes while seeking the support of its leadership and members.

“I remain fully committed to the supremacy of the party and will continue to work tirelessly for its unity, growth, and electoral success,” he said.

With the 2027 elections still some distance away, the early declaration signals the beginning of political realignments and consultations within Lagos State’s political landscape.

Observers say the coming months will likely see more aspirants emerge as parties and stakeholders intensify preparations for what is expected to be a keenly contested governorship race.
