IWD 2026: NIMASA-Moberola applauds women’s resilience, expertise in maritime sector

The Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dayo Mobereola, has commended women for their growing influence and contributions to Nigeria’s maritime industry, describing their expertise, leadership, and resilience as key drivers of progress within the sector.

In a goodwill message to mark International Women’s Day 2026, Mobereola celebrated women working across various segments of the maritime value chain, noting that their dedication and professionalism continue to shape the industry’s development and sustainability.

He stated that women have made significant contributions to the maritime sector through their roles in seafaring, regulatory functions, technical operations, and administrative leadership, strengthening the industry’s capacity for innovation and long-term growth.

“I celebrate your strength, expertise and invaluable contributions to our maritime industry,” Mobereola said, adding that women’s leadership and commitment have consistently translated into measurable progress for the sector.

Reflecting on this year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” the NIMASA Director-General said the concept resonates strongly with the role women play in the maritime industry.

According to him, the value women bring through their professionalism, resilience, and dedication continues to generate collective benefits for the maritime sector and the broader Nigerian economy.

Mobereola also commended women professionals for their determination to excel despite challenges, noting that their increasing presence in operational and decision-making positions is helping to transform the maritime landscape.

He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to building a more inclusive maritime environment where women are empowered to grow, lead, and contribute meaningfully to national development.

International Women’s Day is observed globally to celebrate the achievements of women while also drawing attention to the need for greater gender equality and empowerment.

Mobereola noted that the 2026 theme highlights the importance of investing in women through education, mentorship, and access to opportunities, stressing that societies and economies thrive when women are supported to realise their full potential.
