FRSC raises alarm over rising indiscipline, misconduct among officers

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has expressed concern over what it describes as a growing wave of misconduct and declining professionalism among some of its personnel across field commands nationwide.

The Corps Marshal of the agency, Shehu Mohammed, raised the alarm during a sensitisation visit to the Anambra State Command in Awka on Tuesday.

Represented by Assistant Corps Marshal Winifred Chukwurah, Commandant of the FRSC Academy in Udi, Enugu State, Mohammed said recent operational reports had revealed disturbing cases of unethical practices among some officers.

He cited incidents of abuse of authority, extortion and reckless enforcement behaviour, describing the development as deeply troubling and unacceptable.

According to the Corps Marshal, such actions pose a serious threat to the credibility and integrity of the Corps and undermine the values upon which the organisation was founded.

“Every act of unprofessional conduct damages the image of thousands of disciplined officers and weakens the confidence Nigerians have built in the Corps over the years,” he said.

Mohammed warned that the agency would no longer tolerate indiscipline and unethical behaviour, stressing that measures were being put in place to restore order and reinforce accountability across all commands.

He added that stronger command and control mechanisms would be implemented to ensure strict adherence to the Corps’ operational standards.

The Corps Marshal further emphasised that extortion, harassment and abuse of authority constitute violations of the law and betray the oath sworn by FRSC personnel.

He urged officers and men of the Corps to recommit themselves to the principles of integrity, fairness and respect for human dignity while carrying out their duties.

Earlier, the Anambra State Sector Commander of the Corps, Bridget Asekhauno, also urged officers in the command to take the Corps Marshal’s message seriously and uphold the highest standards of discipline and professionalism in service to the public.
