I’ve not moved to new political party – Gov. Obaseki

The of Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has said even though he resigned from his party All Peoples Congress(APC), he has not joined any other party to enable him contest the governorship election in the state.slated for September.

Obaseki who had announced his resignation from the APC after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari, however took to his Twitter page on Wednesday to make a crucial announcement, saying his main focus was to control the spread of COVID-19 ravaging the country and not the governorship election.

The decision the governor said he took after he was disqualified from the party’s primary by committees set up by Adams Oshiomhole.

This recent pronouncement is coming on the heels of suspension of his political adversary, Adams Oshiomhole, as the National Chairman of the party.

The Appeal Court on Tuesday upheld the decision of the Federal Capital Territory High Court which in March ordered the suspension of Oshiomhole and also ordered him to stop parading himself as the national chairman of the party.

The decision of the court has been duly followed by the party by instructing the embattled chairman Adams Oshiomhole to hand over to Senator Abiola Ajimobi, deputy national chairman, for the south..

This development has set people of the state more confused, as they have waited his announcement of movement to the main opposition party, People’s Democracy Party(PDP) or any other party, to fulfil their dream, but the governor has kept all in suspense by his statement.

“My focus now is to control the spread of the coronavirus (#COVID19) pandemic, which is ravaging our country and threatening our healthcare system.” Obaseki said.

The Edo State PDP Chairman, Mr. Tony Aziegbemi, on Monday, said Governor Godwin Obaseki and other top officials of the All Progressives Congress would soon join his party.

The chairman’s statement appeared valid as Obaseki’s deputy, Shaibu, has also announced his resignation from APC. However, the APC as at Tuesday said they don’t have record of Obaseki’s resignation.
