Imo assembly frowns at takeover of legislative quarters, sends Uzodimma on recovery mission

…As Olemgbe swears in new member

The Imo State House of Assembly has frowned at the takeover of the state legislative quarters by squatters, and has passed a motion urging Governor Hope Uzodimma to recover same in order to put it to its proper use.

Presenting the motion at the floor of the house, Hon. Ikenna Ihezuo, representative Orlu Constituency noted that the Imo House of Assembly staff quarters were illegally converted to personal use and needed to be recovered.

He recalled that members and staff of the Assembly, including aides of the lawmakers, were ejected from the premises under very controversial circumstances and the place was renamed “Heroes Apartments”.

He added that the Assembly records showed that there was no resolution or agreement to cede the property.

The lawmaker stated that the purpose for which the quarters were built had been grossly defeated and should be addressed.

He prayed the Assembly to urge Uzodimma to use the necessary machineries of government to recover the property from those currently managing them and put them to proper use.

Supporting the motion, Mr Gilbert Nwosu stated that conversion of the quarters was an insult to the legislature and should not be allowed to continue.

Following votes in favour of the motion, the Speaker, Mr Chike Olemgbe, ruled in favour of prayers of the motion.

During the session, the speaker Hon. Olemgbe supervised the swearing in of the Isu State constituency, Mr Kingsley Ozurumba of the All Progressives Congress(APC).
