FRSC boss speaks on cause of death of 3 officers, sets up inquiry

Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has expressed shock over the death of three Officers of the Ijebu-Ode Unit of the Corps.

Oyeyemi said the demise of the Officers on Wednesday, 18th June, 2020 during the heavy rain that day was caused by a sudden spark with a sharp lightening across the sky accompanied by a thunderous sound struck that claimed their lives.

He went further to say, “Out of the five affected Staff, two survived the shock due to lesser voltages that passed through them, and the immediate application of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) applied on one of them by another staff who ran immediately to the scene upon hearing their loud scream.

“Unfortunately, three of the victims were lifeless and beyond resuscitation and were later confirmed dead at the state hospital Mortuary, Ijebu-Ode,” Oyeyemi said.

According to Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Public Education Officer, the Corps Marshal has expressed  shock over the loss, described the unfortunate occurrence as an unexpected natural disaster.

Oyeyemi therefore condoles with the families of the deceased staff, the Ijebu-Ode Unit Command, where they served before their demise. Ogun State Sector Command and the entire Management and Staff of the Federal Road Safety Corps.

He charged the staff not to be deterred by the loss, but should put in extra efforts in selfless service to the nation as a mark of honour to the deceased colleagues.

The dead officers he stated will be buried according to their various religious beliefs.

The release stated that though other security agencies, at the scene on rescue mission immediately commenced investigation into the cause of the incident, statement released on the Twitter handle of the Corps stated,

“the Corps Marshal has also set up a Board of inquiry and ordered immediate investigation with a view to ascertain all variables that led to the unfortunate occurrence.”
