Fire explosion at port area, over 10 die, cars upturned

Massive explosion has been reported on Tuesday at the Lebanon capital Beirut near the city port area with high  casualties recorded.

According to Reuters, at least 10 people have been reported dead, with over 100 casualties within the radius of the port.

The country’s health minister says explosion caused very high number of injuries.

Thick smoke seen rising above beirut after the explosion.

Windows of houses far and near were shattered, many cars were seen upturned, broken classes were seen everywhere.

People in 17 kilometers away from the port heard and felt the explosion.

There were many mangled houses within the port area as a result of the blast wave.

Windows were shattered at the streets and huge plume of smoke bellowed into the sky.

Lebanese Red cross says more than 30 teams responded after explosion.

Soldiers were seen helping to transfer wounded person to nearby hospitals as many ambulances were seen moving in and out of the area.

It’s difficult at the moment to say exactly what caused the blast, but some local media have reported that the explosion started at a firecrackers at the city port area.

there has been political instability in the country, however, the country’s security chief, Abbas Ibrahim said he cannot pre-empt investigation into the explosion, added that explosion appears to be from highly explosive materials.

There have been unending corruption cases at the port.
