The Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) has rewarded its representatives at the National Bible Quiz Competition organised as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), recognising their commitment and achievements in promoting biblical knowledge and Christian values.
The recognition took place during a meeting between the representatives and the General Secretary of CCN, the Rt. Rev. Evans Onyemara, Ph.D., at the Council’s National Headquarters in Abuja.

Among those honoured was Mrs Mary Ndukwe of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, who secured second position in the Women’s Category, while Prince Sunday Omu of the Anglican Communion came third in the Youth Category.
Miss Ojekandimma Sam Obu, also of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, placed fourth in the Junior Category, while Venerable Smart S. Simon served as quizmaster, contributing to the preparation and coordination of the Council’s participation.

Speaking on behalf of the National President of CCN, Most Rev. Dr David O. C. Onuoha, the General Secretary, Onyemara, commended the representatives for their dedication, commitment and willingness to represent the Council at the national competition.
He particularly acknowledged the efforts of Venerable Smart S. Simon in preparing the participants, noting his contribution to their performance and the overall representation of the Council.
Onyemara also appreciated the support of the FCT Chairman of CCN, Venerable Joshua Lambert, towards the Council’s participation in the competition.

A major highlight of the meeting was the formal presentation of the trophy won by Mrs Ndukwe for securing second position in the Women’s Category to the General Secretary, symbolising the Council’s recognition of her achievement at the national event.
In further appreciation of their participation and performance, Onyemara presented gifts to the representatives on behalf of the Council.
Responding, Venerable Simon expressed gratitude to the CCN leadership for the confidence reposed in him and the opportunity to coordinate the Council’s participation in the competition.
He called on member churches to demonstrate greater interest and participation in subsequent editions of the Bible Quiz, stressing the importance of creating opportunities for more Christians, particularly young people, to deepen their knowledge of the Scriptures and demonstrate their understanding of biblical teachings.
Simon also commended the Council for fulfilling its promises to the participants and acknowledging their contributions, describing the recognition as an encouragement to sustain their commitment to Christian education and the promotion of biblical literacy.
The recognition underscores CCN’s commitment to encouraging members of its constituent churches to engage in activities that promote biblical knowledge, Christian fellowship and the development of faith among different age groups.

It also highlights the importance of providing platforms for young people and other members of the Christian community to demonstrate their knowledge of the Scriptures while strengthening unity and healthy engagement among churches.
