APC Primary: Lawmaker urges party fateful to shun violence

Ahead of the All Progressives Congress(APC) primary election to elect its candidates for the forthcoming local government election in Lagos State, a member of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Jude Omobowale Idimogu has called on party fateful to shun any form of violence and embrace peace.

Speaking to journalists on Friday, on the imperative of peaceful APC local government primary election to elect candidates that will fly the party’s flag as Chairmen and Councillors in the 20 Local Governments  and 35 Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs of the state scheduled for Saturday 29 May, 2021.

The lawmaker called on all aspirants to see the contest as a family affair where only the party will be the winner at the end of the day, and through which democracy will be deepened in the state and nation at large.

Idimogu said, “We have different caucus in the state party, but let us see ourselves from one mother and father ,that is APC which is the umbrella of all of us.”

He extolled the fatherly virtues of the national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu,(BAT), his steadfastness and ability to sustain the party through thick and thin.

The lawmaker further commended the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Mudashiru Obasa and other political leaders of the party for their commitments in making sure dividends of democracy gets to the people at the grassroots.

The local council election as released last April, 2021 by the Chairman, Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission(LASIEC), Rtd. Justice Ayotude Philips is scheduled for July, 2021.

Idimogu who is the lawmaker representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II, also raised great concerns over incessant vandalisation of government assets in the South-eastern part of the country.

He made a passionate appeal to indigenes of the region to shun violence and work harmoniously to ensure safety of lives and properties .

The Lagos based politician who is also the House Committee Chairman on Employment and Wealth Creation appealed to  those behind the mayhem and chaos that has presently engulfed the five states, to desist from further damages on national and state assets.

Stating that the recent acts of burning of assets in the region is foreign, that it gained traction in South-South and South-West during the ENDSAR 2020 crisis .

He urged the Igbo nation to be wise and resist any urge not to protect available assets of government and private owned institutions in the area, as replacing them in a short while may not be easily achieved.

Idimogu also condemned attack on security personnel within the region, maintained that such dastardly act would further endange the lives of people.

He advised against any form of referendum or disintegration stating that such may further create pandemonium for the citizenry.

” My appeal to my brothers and sisters over there is for us to protect our structures. Structures of the federal government or state belong to us. Its our own and nobody can come and remove those assets, so instead of destroying those properties why don’t we work on how to get more and develop the ones available.

“We are just exposing ourselves to crime and attacks. The way and manners we are going about burning government properties will not help us because I believe there are better ways of doing things.

“Two wrongs do not make a right . I believe In the entity called Nigeria because Nigeria cannot break. I have not seen any leader who is on the side of disintegration of this country,” Idimogu added.
