Anambra NSCDC braces up to conquer

Everestus Obiyo, Commandant, NSCDC, Anambra State Command

Since the assumption of duty in September, 2021 of Everestus Chimezie Obiyo, as the Commandant, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, he has not looked back on holding on to the plough, forward-looking on the task ahead he remains.
Obiyo in his median speech partly captured the need to sanitize the state and to brace-up to the increasing spate of insecurity in the state especially as the November 6, 2021 Anambra State governorship election is around the corner.
He has vowed to bring his experiences to bare in tackling insecurity and other vices of the time having served in those capacities as head of Intelligence and Investigation Department, in Abia State. Head, Anti-Vandalism Unit, Kano State; Head, Operations Department, Gombe State. Head of Administration Department, Anambra State and  as Commandant in-charge of Operations at Zone ‘H’ Zonal Headquarters Markurdi. 
To boost and re-assure the citizens of the state, Obiyo deployed NSCDC Surveillance and operational team, counter terrorism unit and other tactical teams on a visibility patrol to build confidence in the people especially at this time.
On the off-season November 6 governorship election in the state, he has demonstrated his readiness to collaborate with civil societies and other agencies to make it hitch -free.
The Command Public Relations Officer, DSC, Okadigbo Edwin in a media release on assumption of office of Comdt. Obiyo, took a tour through his journey of life.
Edwin recalled in the press statement,
“Before his recent posting as Anambra State Commandant he was the Commandant in charge of Intelligence and Investigation Department at the NSCDC Zone E, Zonal Headquarters Owerri, Imo State. He has served as State Commandants in Kogi, Ogun and Enugu States respectively.”
The commandant having served in well over 21 state commands of the corps in the federation no doubt has seen it all.
 His quest for academic prowess started in far away Cameroon before returning to Nigeria for his secondary education at Obowo, Imo State.
A graduate of the University of Nigeria Nsukka(UNN), where he obtained Diploma in Social Works before leaving for British Society of Commerce London (Nigeria Center) and bagged B.Sc. in Administration.
Obiyo had attended the old Imo State University now Abia State University, Uturu for his Bachelor of Arts, B.A (Hons) in History.
Comdt Obiyo holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration from University of Calabar(UNICAL), and a Master’s Degree in Psychology/ Administration from same University of Calabar, Cross River State.
He had earlier worked briefly with the Academy Press Lagos before joining the Nigerian Prisons Service as Assistant Superintendent of Prisons in 1991.
His brilliance has stood him out as he rose to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Prisons (CSP) in 2000.
He joined the services of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps in the same rank as Chief Superintendent of Corps in 2005 and rose through ranks to his present rank of Commandant.
Comdt. Obiyo has attended several courses on Strategic Management and Leadership, both within and outside the Country which include but not limited to Nigeria Prisons Staff College, Kaduna, Weapon Handling and Combat Maneuvering, 82 Division Headquarters Nigerian Army, Enugu, Citizenship and Leadership Training Course in Port Harcourt, Advanced and Strategic Management Course, North Lake College, Dallas Texas, United State of America (USA).
He attended the Advanced Weapon Handling Techniques and Crisis Management Course at Nigerian Army 82 Div. Enugu in 2009, in 2017, he was in Israel for a Counter Terrorism / Insurgency, in 2018 he went for Counter Forces, Intelligence, Surveillance and Offensive Course in Parkistan.
Comdt. Obiyo, a versatile officer with impeccable track records in crime fighting, member of many professional bodies with baggage of awards to his credit.  An advocate of participatory management, game changer, devout Christian and a good family man.
The commandant has continued to seek and solicit the support and cooperation of Anambrarians and residents alike as he sets out to discharge the constitutional mandate of his line of duty
