Church group inaugurates N2m ICT centre in Lagos

Determined to equip the youths to fit into the contemporary global job market, the members of the Order of the Knight of St Molumba(KSM) of the the Roman Catholic Church has built and commissioned a N2. 2million Information Communication Technology(ICT) Training/Business Centre.

The Information Technology Centre commissioning was performed by the Grand Knight of the Akowonjo sub-council, of the Lagos Archdiocese, Sir John Ichue at the instance of the Chaplain of the sub-council, Rev. Fr Francis Anozie.

The Knights – their men and their women turned out in their numbers to witness and thank God over the realization of their dream project. Rev Fr Anozie offered a thanksgiving prayers with Rev. Fr. Lawrence Nwaneri, the parish priest St. Patrick’s, Igbogila, Ipaja, Lagos in attendance.

The project designed to bring the much sought after ICT knowledge to the youths for capacity building and to equip them for the competitive global Labour market.

Ichue said, “The ICT project is for youths empowerment; to train them in computer skills because information technology acquisition is the way to go. Computer knowledge is critical for the contemporary generation, especially the youths in order to prepare them for the global job market.”

He explained that knowledge-based economy drives today’s global businesses with technology playing key role in driving virtually every product and service delivery.

The N2.2 million project was conceived in June, 2020, by the Knighthood Order known for exploring their educational exposures, social standing and material resources to champion developmental projects for the growth of the Church and society.

At its 10th anniversary celebration in September, 2020, the Akowonjo Knights of St. Molumba sought for and raised N2.2 million for the ICT training project according to Sir Ichue.

He stated further, “This project is the first phase and in the second phase, we are going to increase the works stations to seven and by the third stage we will have ten works stations.”

The Grand Knight expressed satisfaction that the training centre has a qualified ICT personnel with relevant qualifications and work experience. It also offers typesetting and photocopying services.

The Akowonjo sub-council, has its vision of providing No1. ICT training centre around the Ipaja-Ayobo neighbourhood that would actualize its dream through which greater glory would be given to God.

The ICT project is sited on the Ist floor of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Secretariat. In a decent friendly and business minded environment fully air-conditioned to put the trainees and other customers alike in relaxed and comfort mood.
