WPFD 2026: Experts to spotlight independent media as tool for peace building, accountability

As part of activities marking World Press Freedom Day, the Headfort Foundation for Justice is set to host a high-level virtual discussion on the critical role of independent media in promoting peace, accountability, and democratic stability amid growing threats to press freedom globally.
The event, themed “Press Freedom and Peace Building: Why Independent Media Matters Now More Than Ever,” will hold on May 5, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. via X Space, bringing together journalists, media professionals, and policy experts to examine the intersection of press freedom, security, and conflict-sensitive reporting.
According to the organisers, the discussion aims to highlight the indispensable role of a free and independent press in promoting transparency, holding power accountable, and preventing conflict through responsible journalism.
