Uzodimma to Davido: Osun voters have rejected your uncle, prepare for life after office

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has fired back at Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over his call for a free and fair governorship election in Osun State, declaring that the electorate has rejected his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, and is ready for a change of government.

Uzodimma’s response followed a press conference by Davido on Wednesday, August 5, during which the singer appealed to politicians to allow the people of Osun State to freely determine who governs them in the August 15 governorship election.

Davido, whose uncle is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accor Party(AP), had said he was concerned by reports that the Imo State governor was planning to interfere in the election and allegedly turn the poll into a political battleground to prove a point.

The singer appealed to the Imo State governor who is the APC Campaign Council Chairman to tow the part of peace and urged whoever was behind the alleged plan to allow Osun voters to exercise their constitutional right without interference.

But Uzodimma, through his Senior Special Assistant on Electronic and Creative Media, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, dismissed the appeal, telling Davido to direct his attention to the electorate and help his uncle prepare for what he described as imminent defeat.

The Imo governor maintained that the August 15 election would be determined by Osun voters and insisted that the alleged rejection of the Adeleke administration was already evident across the state.

Uzodinma

“The reality is that Governor Ademola Adeleke has, in the opinion of many, failed woefully in the discharge of his responsibilities. This is why many Osun voters are determined to vote him out in the August 15, 2026, governorship election,” the statement said.

Uzodimma further claimed that the political mood across Osun State suggested that a significant number of voters had become dissatisfied with the incumbent administration and were prepared to support the APC candidate.

“The signals emerging from across Osun State are clear. There is a growing indication that a significant number of voters have rejected the current administration and are prepared to embrace a new direction,” he said.

He therefore advised Davido to concentrate on mobilising support for his uncle rather than appealing to him, arguing that the ultimate decision would rest with the people of Osun State when they cast their ballots.

Oyebamiji

“Rather than attempting to influence Governor Hope Uzodimma through emotional appeals, Davido should concentrate on helping his uncle prepare for life after office, as the people of Osun appear ready to cast their votes massively in favour of the APC candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji” the statement added.

Uzodimma also introduced a sarcastic dimension to his response, suggesting that Davido might need to prepare to employ his uncle in the entertainment industry if he loses the election.

“Perhaps, Davido should also begin making preparations to officially sign his uncle as a dancer in his musical band, because judging by the mood of the electorate, he may well be out of a political job after the August 15, 2026, governorship election,” he said.

The exchange has added a fresh political and celebrity dimension to the increasingly competitive Osun governorship contest, with the incumbent Accord Party administration seeking another term against the APC and other opposition contenders.

Davido’s intervention has brought additional public attention to the election, while Uzodimma’s response has shifted the focus back to the performance of the Adeleke administration and the prospects of the APC candidate.
