South-South APC insists on retaining National Chairman seat

The South-South leaders of the All Progressives Congress(APC) have risen from thier zonal caucus meeting in Abuja with a call for the position of the national chairman presently in contention be retained in the zone.

They called on the  party to respect the current zoning arrangement and allow the zone to retain the chairmanship of the  party occupied by the embattled national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole even in an acting capacity.

The leaders therefore resolved that the National Acting Secretary, Chief Victor Giadom who is the most senior officer of the party from the zone be confirmed  Acting National Chairman of the party.

At the meeting held on Thursday in Abuja had the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki,.four serving Ministers from the zone namely; Rotimi Amaechi (Transport), Osagie Ehanire (Health), Festus Keyamo (State, Labour) and Goddy Jeddy Agba (State, Power).

Also present at the meeting were former Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba; former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Nguru Usani; and ex-NIMASA boss, Dakuku Peterside,and others.

However the embattled National Chairman  Oshiomhole and the Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege and the APC National Vice-Chairman, South-South, Hilliard Eta, were absent at the meeting

In a communique issued at the end of the meeting,which was read by the Edo state Governor Obaseki, the leaders expressed  thier unalloyed support to the Nagional Executive Committe (NEC) of the party as the only organ competent to resolve the raging crisis in the party.

The communique party read, “At the meeting, the leaders of the zone deliberated extensively on situation in the party and at the end of the meeting, they adopted the following resolutions:

“That as a party, we commend our brother, the Acting Chairman of the APC,  Victor Giadom, for rising to the occasion by providing leadership for the party in this trying times.

“That we fully support the convening of the National Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday, March 17th, as the NEC is the only recognised organ under the constitution of our party to resolve the APC crisis.

“That we insist that the party should respect the current zoning arrangement by retaining the chairmanship of our great party in the South-South zone even in an acting capacity.

The Appeal Court hearing on whether the suspension of Oshomole by an Abuja High Court is valid or not has been slated for 16th of March a day before the proposed NEC meeting, that will go a long way to set the tune for the 17th Tuesday  meeting.
