Revocation of Akanu Ibiam Airport underway

Failure of The contractors handling the reconstruction work at the  Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu to complete the job on or before April 2020 will attract revocation of the contract.

The House of Representatives Committee on Aviation,  stated this while on an oversight function to the airport.

According to the Chairman of the Committee, Nnolim Nnaji, while at the Akanu Ibiam and Sam Mbakwe Cargo Airports, Enugu and Owerri, told the contractor that anything short of completion of the contract by this Easter is unacceptable.

He expressed that there may be a little delay locking on, that  they  have warned the contractor against delay,  “but as we have told the contractor, we are not going to accept anything beyond Easter. And from what they are doing now, the second asphalt they are laying is the most important asphalt, but it will be light.

“But most importantly, is the Enugu airport runway; it must be completed soon. Like I said, we are targeting Easter… if he fails, “we may have to revoke the contract.”

Sam Mbakwe Airport

Concerning the Sam Mbakwe Airport, the House Committee harped on the importance of a tripartite agreement among the State government, the Federal Government and the contractor to facilitate the completion of the project.

“There should be a tripartite agreement with the state government, the Federal Government and the contractor to facilitate the completion of this project… we believe if that is done, when the expansion work is completed,  it will be a source of revenue for both state and Federal Governments,” Nnolim said.

Answering questions from journalists, the Managing Director  of Gosh Projects Limited, the company handling the Owerri Airport expansion project, Mr. Jeff Okoh  said that N13 billion was needed to complete the N21 billion project which only N8 billion has so far been released.
