Power projects get boost as NPA releases long-abandoned NDPHC equipment

…Saves billions in potential losses

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has facilitated the recovery and clearance of critical power equipment belonging to the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC), ending prolonged delays that had left the consignments abandoned at various Nigerian seaports.

The intervention is expected to accelerate the implementation of critical electricity projects across the country while helping NDPHC avert potential losses running into billions of naira.

Managing Director of NDPHC, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Managing Director of the NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, and his management team in Lagos.

Adighije commended the NPA for intervening to facilitate the recovery and clearance of the equipment, describing the development as critical to the timely execution of power projects and efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure.

She explained that the equipment was required for ongoing and planned projects, warning that prolonged delays in accessing the consignments could have disrupted project schedules, increased costs and undermined efforts to improve electricity supply.

According to her, the NPA’s intervention had not only enabled the recovery of the valuable equipment but also saved NDPHC billions of naira in potential losses.

The NDPHC boss called for sustained collaboration among the company, NPA and other relevant government agencies to eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks that could delay the movement and deployment of critical infrastructure materials.

She stressed that timely clearance of power-sector equipment was particularly important because contractors and project teams require unhindered access to materials to execute projects within schedule.

Adighije also described the visit as an opportunity to strengthen the strategic relationship between NDPHC and NPA, assuring the port authority of the company’s commitment to deeper collaboration in the interest of the power sector and national development.

Responding, Dantsoho reaffirmed the NPA’s commitment to supporting initiatives that contribute to Nigeria’s economic development.

He noted that reliable electricity supply remained fundamental to economic growth, industrialisation and improved living standards, assuring NDPHC that the Authority would continue to support the smooth movement and clearance of critical equipment required for strategic national projects.

Dantsoho said the NPA remained open to collaboration with government agencies and other stakeholders whose activities contribute to infrastructure development and economic growth.

Emphasising that the intervention underscores the broader importance of efficient port processes to sectors beyond maritime trade, particularly where delays in cargo clearance can affect strategic infrastructure projects and impose significant costs on government and the economy.
