The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has extended heartfelt condolences to the Federal Government and the people of Nigeria following the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari on July 13, 2025, in London.
MWUN President-General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, praised Buhari’s leadership, describing him as a man of absolute discipline and incorruptible character.
In a press statement made available by the union’s Head of Media, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, described Buhari as a visionary and transparent leader dedicated to national service.
According to the release, Buhari’s administration prioritized national development, economic recovery, and social inclusion, leaving a lasting impact on Nigeria’s history
Said the administration strengthened anti-graft institutions like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and launched the Treasury Single Account (TSA) to consolidate government revenues
“His administration witnessed significant strides in infrastructure development across the country, initiated social investment programs, including N-Power, Conditional Cash Transfers, and the School Feeding Programme, to support millions of families.
Comrade Bunu urged Nigerians to join in mourning alongside the Federal Government, the Government of Katsina State, and the people of Daura, Buhari’s hometown.
He called for a befitting state burial for the late President, in accordance with Islamic rites, and prayed for the peaceful repose of Buhari’s soul and strength for his family to bear the loss.
