MWUN election: shipping branch presents staff of office to Adeyanju

The shipping and clearing agencies branch of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has on Tuesday endorsed the candidature of Prince Adewale Adeyanju for second term in office as the President General of the union.

The branch President, Comrade Ekpeyong Etim Ekpeyong said that the branch supported the emergence of Adeyanju in his first term and would want him to continue because he had surpassed the expectations of the members.

He said that all the branch executives unanimously endorsed Adeyanju because he had improved on the welfare of the workers of the branch.

He quipped that if not to fulfil all righteousness, he would have asked that the election slated for March be skipped.

Also speaking, Comrade Boniface Udoh, Deputy President General, shipping branch said that the present administration under Adeyanju has surprised every member of the union.

He stated this in view of the fact that he achieved more than it is expected of him within his first term of four years.

He therefore averred that the entire members have declared their support for his continuity in office.

Also speaking, Comrade Funmi Fasan, Vice President General, Shipping branch stated that even though the PG had said that the shoe was too big for him at the beginning of his first term, she said the shoe has become too small for him now that he has been given another bigger shoe of another four year term.

She made reference to how he introduced cooperative for the good of the members of the union.

According to her, Adeyanju is the type of president that would be there to solve the problems of members who share their shortcomings with him.

Comrade Felix Akingboye while speaking, lauded the initiative of the shipping branch for endorsing the continuity of the PG in office.

“I am happy that you have come out to endorse the second tenure of PG and I think there is not going to be rancour on that day,” he said.

Highlighting the success of Adeyanju, he said there was no month that Workers’ salaries were delayed.

He said that the PG has registered the union with an efficient hospital for members because he doesn’t want members to suffer.

In his response, the PG, while accepting the offer to serve again, promised to take up the course of the branch, especially in the areas where much success was not recorded in his first term in office.

He said, “We have to review your gratuity, and we need to do something about the stagnation of workers in a particular position for upwards of 10 years without promotion.

“I think all those things need to be taken care of. You have given me your mandate but I need your support to achieve all these things.

“After the election in March, the emergency we declared in shipping branch would be reviewed.”
