Lagos police arrest 185 cultists, promise hard times await criminal elements

Operatives of the Special Strike Force on Social Miscreants of the Lagos State police command have arrested 185 suspected notorious cultists and gangsters in the state.

They were arrested at cult dens in Ikorodu, Ipkakodo, Igbogbo, Igbeshe, Shagamu Road, Agbowa among others, most of the arrests were made at an uncompleted building where they were holding cult meetings.

The suspect’s include Gbadamosi Mohammed, 30 years, accused of killing one Madariola Sunday at Ibeshe on 21st May, 2020. Onibudo Afeex, Habeeb Isa, Felix Igwoke and Taiwo Iyanu were arrested at Femi Taiwo Street, Ikorodu, Lagos.

The suspects confessed to have belonged to various cult groups including Aiye, KK, Buccaneers, Viking Confraternity among others, police however recovered locally made pistol and other dangereous weapons from the suspects.

The police also arrested one Adeoye Daya, 25, the hit man of Aiye at Ikorodu Garage with one locally made short gun and rounds of live cartridges. Shodeinde Tosin also of Aiye Confraternity was also arrested with a locally made short gun.

It would be recalled that recently, the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu, ordered the deployment of special forces from the command’s tactical units to Ikorodu and environs to tackle the miscreants in the area headlong.

The intelligence driven operatives had spotted the leaders and members of the various cults, rival groups and gangs in Ikorodu, who had in recent weeks engaged themselves in supremacy battles that have led to deaths from both sides.

A statement signed by DSP Bala Elkana, the Force Public Relations Officer of Lagos Police Command, made available to nation update online, said the operation will be sustained in all parts of the state until the criminal gangs are totally crushed, as the suspects will be charged to court.
