Independence Day: MWUN President-General Bunu urges Nigerians to remain resilient despite hardship

The President-General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has commended Nigerians for their resilience, faith and patriotism amid prevailing economic challenges and insecurity, urging citizens to remain hopeful and committed to national unity.

Bunu, in an Independence Day message to Nigerians, said the country’s citizens deserved commendation for their determination to overcome difficult circumstances and their continued belief in a better future for the nation.

According to a statement e-signed by the Head of Media, MWUN, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, the labour leader acknowledged the economic pressures, security concerns and other challenges confronting the country but maintained that Nigerians’ hard work, perseverance and faith remained important sources of strength.

He described Nigerians as industrious and resilient people who continue to demonstrate faith in God and confidence that the country can overcome its present difficulties.

As the nation commemorates its independence, Bunu urged citizens to sustain their belief in Nigeria and support efforts towards building a more prosperous, peaceful and inclusive society.

He expressed optimism about the country’s future under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying Nigeria was passing through a period of transition and expressing hope that ongoing efforts would translate into improved living conditions and greater opportunities for citizens.

The MWUN leader reiterated his support for the vision of a transformed Nigeria, stressing the importance of collective commitment, responsible leadership and citizens’ participation in national development.

Bunu also paid tribute to the country’s founding fathers, acknowledging their sacrifices and contributions to the struggle for independence, attained on October 1, 1960.

He said their efforts helped shape the country’s destiny and establish the foundation for a united Nigeria, despite its diverse ethnic groups, religions, cultures and traditions.

According to him, preserving the country’s unity requires Nigerians to look beyond their differences and embrace the shared aspirations that bind them together as one nation.

He urged political, traditional, religious and community leaders to promote peace, tolerance and mutual understanding, particularly at a time when economic and security challenges demand collective resolve.

Bunu further called on Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora to continue praying for the country and contributing to its development, expressing confidence that Nigeria would overcome its present challenges and strengthen its standing in the international community.

He wished Nigerians a peaceful and memorable Independence Day celebration, urging them to keep faith in the country and work collectively towards a more united, secure and prosperous future.
