Akwa Ibom commits to enhancing payroll efficiency, transparency

…Announces civil service job opportunities

The Akwa Ibom State Government has taken a significant step towards enhancing the efficiency and transparency of its Unified Payroll System.

The Honourable Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Dr. Frank Ekpenyong, convened a high-level strategy session with payroll officers from across the state to reinforce the administration’s commitment to a transparent and integrated payroll system.

The engagement, which brought together key stakeholders from the Mainstream Civil Service, Akwa Ibom State Universal Basic Education Board (AKSUBEB), and the Local Government Civil Service Commission, aimed to drive data integrity and financial accountability.

Dr. Ekpenyong emphasized that payroll processes must remain in-house and under the control of trained public servants, rather than outsourced to external consultants.

Addressing participants, the Accountant General of the state, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien, lauded Dr. Ekpenyong for his proactive leadership and dedication to fostering cross-sectoral collaboration.

He noted that the Commissioner’s efforts have deepened the synergy between the Ministry of Science and Digital Economy and other arms of the civil service, aligning with Governor Umo Eno’s vision for a Unified Government Ideology.

To support this directive, Governor Umo Eno has approved the distribution of critical equipment, including computers, printers, and backup generators, to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) facing challenges with power supply. These tools will enhance the efficiency and accuracy of payroll operations across the board.

Dr. Ekpenyong also urged payroll officers to maintain open communication lines, engage in regular feedback loops, and uphold best practices to ensure prompt and precise salary payments for all civil servants. Additionally, he announced that new job opportunities will soon be available across various sectors of the Akwa Ibom State Civil Service, and interested applicants can register via the official state employment portal.
