AIG Olofu charges personnel to proffer solution to illegal checkpoints, wharf rat syndrome, others at ports

Barely two weeks of her assumption of duty, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Maritime Police Command, Lagos, AIG Olofu Adetutu Rhoda, has charged officers and men under her command to embrace new policing techniques as to curb the activities of miscreants, illegal checkpoints and wharf rats syndrome to improve ease of doing business at Nigerian ports.

The AIG gave the directive last Tuesday at a strategic meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police, Western Ports Command, Apapa, Lagos CP Lanre Ishola, his management members and other Senior Police Officers at her Maritime Command Headquarters office, Obalande, Lagos.

In a release signed by ASP Ehinmode Rowland Adewumi, Ag. Police Public Relations Officer made available to Nation Update, AIG Olofun charged them to proffer lasting solutions to cases of port congestion and terminal gridlocks.

She restated her commitment to the deployment of adequate Police personnel and cutting-edge tools for visibility policing and to clear the port corridors of all illegal checkpoints, hoodlums and other criminal elements hindering the free flow of business within and around the ports and terminals.

The AIG called on the officers to be alive to their responsibilities by carrying out their duties within the ambit of the law, thereby making the ports environment safer for the operators and stakeholders.
