The new executive that will pilot the affair of journalist in maritime beat,  “Association of Maritime Journalists  of Nigerian” (AMJON), has been elected.

The executive body was elected to lead the men and women of the pen (as Journalists are often called) for the next three years.

The events which took place at the AMJON Press Centre saw Messrs Paul Ogbuokiri of New Telegraph, Andrew Utulu of Daily Independent and Innocent Orok of The Experience returned unopposed to their former positions of President, Vice President and Treasurer respectively.

Mr Segun Oladepupo who was the financial Secretary in the last dispensation was elected as the new secretary general.

Other elected officials include: Vera Osokpo of Punch 24/7 as Provost; Adaku Onyenucheya of the Guardian Newspaper as Financial Secretary.

 Lola Adesokan of the Searchlight Magazine as Welfare Officer; Uzor Odigboof the Niche as PRO and Ezurike Ugochukwu of Nation Update as Assistant Secretary.

In his acceptance speech, the President Paul Ogbokiri, promised to improve on existing feats achieved in the past and initiate new programmes that will enhance reportorial capacities of the members.

The new executive members were immediately sworn-in by Ismail Aniemu, Chairman Board of Trustees of the organisation.

Speaking after the election, Ojo Peter Akinyoye, Tincan Island Chapter Chairman of Association of Nigeria Licenced Customs Agents (ANLCA) who c observed the conduct of the election expressed satisfaction.

Akintoye however asked the newly elected officials to rededicate themselves to the interest of the group as he assured of his association’s readiness to work with the new executive and Journalists as a whole to move the maritime Industry forward.

A member Benson Ewedafe said they are upbeat the new executive use the next three year to give the association a formidable footing.

“COVID-19 we believe may have contributed to low performance in the last dispensation. 

From what has played out, leading to the election and promises made during manifesto, we look up to things falling in proper place this time.”
