The Lagos State Commissioner of Police , CP Hakeem Odumosu has extolled the outstanding qualities of Inspector, Adekunle Ilesanmi who died from deep cuts he sustained while preventing an unruly colleague from wrecking havoc.
Ilesanmi, while trying to stop one Sergeant Okema Azuquo a fellow police officer from killing their co-tenants in the compound they lived in got severe machete cuts.
In a release made available to nation update online, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, said that at about 8.10pm on June 4, 2020, one Azeez Adebayo of No. 8 Dosunmu Street, Agbelekale Oke-odo reported at Oke-Odo Police Station that one Sergeant Okema Azuquo, a tenant in the same house returned home and engaged other tenants in a fight.
Adebayo in his report narrated how the accused person, Sergeant Asuquo, inflicted a machet cut on one Inspector Adekunle Ilesanmi, who is also a tenant, while trying to prevent Asuquo from harming the other civilian co-tenanats.
It was also reported that one Ayodele Eyitayo, also a tenant in the house sustained a minor injury in his face in the cause of the fight.
“A team of Policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer was promptly drafted to the scene of the incident. The injured persons were take to hospital for treatment, while the Sergeant was arrested.
“While Ayodele Eyitayo was discharged from the hospital, the Inspector Ilesanmi was admitted due to the severity of the injury he sustained. Unfortunately, he died on Sunday 7th of July, while still on admission,” the report stated.
According to DSP Elkana, the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti Police Station, Yaba, has taken over the investigation. The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigation and disciplinary proceedings into the case are concluded
