Unending demolitions in Abuja, community cries out

Right from the days of Mallam Nasir El- Rufai as the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), when  no fewer than 200 buildings in the city and thousands  in the satellite towns were demolished, subjecting many homeless and out of business.

Till today, the trend of demolishment in Abuja has been recurring as residents of Angwan Fulani, Dakwa area of Dei Dei, a satellite town in Abuja, seem to have thier turn of woos following the ongoing demolition in the area.

To this end, residents of the area have appealed to the Minister of FCT, Muhammed Bello, Niger State government and the Emir of Suleja to prevail on the authorities of the Federal  Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to  put a stop to the demolition.

Nation Update.com.ng gathered during a chart with the acting spokesperson of the area, Muhammad Abdullahi, that they were shocked over the  demolition that came without any prior notice.

Abdullahi mantained that all residents  of the area carried out the proper findings before  procuring thier individual plots of land.

According to him, the lands in the area belonged to Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State, insisting that FCDA have no justification to go about the demolition in the are outside their jurisdiction.

The spokesperson said the bewildered residents of the area have no option than to resort to legal actions against FCDA.

Officials of the FCDA have maintained that the demolition would continue despite the outcry.

An official who spoke anonymously said the area in question belong to the FCT and not NIGER State as posited by the residents.

“I don’t understand why the people are making noise, and I wonder why they would buy land without proper investigation. we have informed them long ago of the intended demolition. The area is territory of FCDA not Niger state. Anyone with contrary claim is deceiving himself.

“The place is mapped out for mechanic workshop against the claims of the present infiterators,” he said.
