Customs boss mourns Dr. Usigbe, hails him as pillar of ethical journalism

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on Monday 27 July, 2025 paid a heartfelt visit to the State House Press Gallery to honor the memory of the late Dr. Leon Usigbe, Abuja Bureau Chief of the Nigerian Tribune, describing him as “a seasoned professional who carried out his duties with rare depth, integrity, and commitment to the ideals of journalism”.

In a poignant display of respect and solidarity, CGC Adeniyi, signed the condolence register for the late Dr. Leon Usigbe, opened by the State House Press Corps, praising him as a “seasoned professional who embodied the highest ideals of journalism through his unwavering dedication and integrity”

The CGC boss himself, a champion of media relations and institutional openness, was visibly moved during the visit. “We have lost a giant in the media landscape,” he wrote. “Dr. Usigbe was a journalist of uncommon excellence whose dedication to truth and fairness made him a reference point for many in the profession.”

He extended his deepest condolences to Dr. Usigbe’s family, the State House Press Corps, and the Nigerian Tribune, drawing on his long-standing rapport with the media. He encouraged them to find solace in the enduring impact of Dr. Usigbe’s remarkable career and legacy.
