Sheikh Akeugberu appeals to abductors to release children in fear of Allah, ahead of Sallah

Sheikh Al-Imam Barrister Bilal Husayn Akinola Akeugberu, the Grand Chief Imam of Oyo Land has appealed to abductors holding children and their teachers in captivity to release them ahead of the forthcoming Eid al-Adha celebration.

In a statement issued on May 25, 2026, the respected Islamic cleric made an emotional appeal rooted in Islamic teachings on mercy, forgiveness, and compassion, urging those responsible for the abduction to fear Allah and allow the victims return safely to their families.

The cleric said no sin is beyond the mercy of Almighty Allah when accompanied by sincere repentance, stressing that Islam places great value on human life, compassion, and forgiveness.

Quoting verses from the Holy Qur’an, Sheikh Akeugberu referenced Surah Az-Zumar Verse 53, which speaks about Allah’s boundless mercy and willingness to forgive all sins for those who sincerely repent.

He also cited Surah An-Nisa Verse 110, reminding the abductors that Allah remains Oft-Forgiving and Most Merciful to those who seek forgiveness after wrongdoing.

According to the cleric, the sacred verses should serve as reminders that the door of repentance and divine mercy remains open to every individual willing to abandon acts capable of causing pain and sorrow to innocent people.

“I hereby beg you in the mightiest name of Allah سبحانه وتعالى to release these innocent children and their teachers still under your custody. Let compassion prevail over cruelty, and let humanity triumph over pain and sorrow,” he stated.

The Islamic scholar expressed concern over the emotional trauma being faced by the families of the abducted victims, noting that parents and loved ones were passing through difficult moments of uncertainty and anguish.

He passionately pleaded with the abductors to allow the children and their teachers reunite with their families in time to participate in the Eid al-Adha festivities.

“Please, please and please, let them celebrate Eid al-Adha with their families and with us,” the cleric appealed.

The Grand Chief Imam concluded his message with prayers for peace, forgiveness, and divine guidance, asking Almighty Allah to forgive humanity’s shortcomings and keep people steadfast in faith and righteousness.

The appeal comes amid growing concerns over insecurity and rising cases of abductions affecting schools and communities across parts of the country, with religious and community leaders increasingly calling for compassion, dialogue, and stronger protection for vulnerable citizens.
