PTML to pioneer customs’ MIS File Tracker as Miko pledges successful rollout

The Port and Terminal Multi-services Limited (PTML) Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has been selected to pilot the newly introduced Management Information System (MIS) File Tracker, with Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Nura Miko, pledging a successful rollout of the digital platform.

The initiative, launched by the Nigeria Customs Service as part of its ongoing modernisation programme, is designed to automate internal administrative processes, improve efficiency and strengthen transparency across Customs formations nationwide.

Speaking at the launch, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, described the deployment of the MIS File Tracker as another milestone in the Service’s digital transformation agenda aimed at enhancing institutional efficiency and improving service delivery.

Represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of ICT and Modernisation, Oluyomi Adebakin, the Comptroller-General said the platform reflects the Service’s commitment to deploying innovative technology in line with international best practices.

She explained that the MIS File Tracker is an enterprise-wide digital platform that integrates key administrative processes through a Single Sign-On (SSO) system, enabling officers to access multiple applications from a unified database.

According to her, the system will digitise critical administrative functions such as leave and pass applications, file tracking, duty rosters, internal staff orders, nominal rolls and other personnel management processes.

She added that the platform would also provide officers with opportunities to submit feedback aimed at improving the system as implementation progresses.

Adebakin noted that the initiative would reduce reliance on manual processes, improve workflow efficiency and support data-driven decision-making throughout the Nigeria Customs Service.

She said PTML Command was chosen for the pilot phase because of its track record in successfully implementing major technological innovations, including the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), popularly known as B’Odogwu.

Responding, Acting Controller of PTML Command, Deputy Comptroller Nura Miko, assured the Customs management that the command would deliver a successful implementation and justify the confidence reposed in it.

He described the selection of PTML as recognition of the command’s commitment to innovation and technology-driven trade facilitation.

Miko said the command has continued to maximise the digital initiatives introduced by the current Customs management to improve operational efficiency and enhance service delivery.

He thanked Comptroller-General Adeniyi for his confidence in the command and disclosed that PTML is already working to reduce the cargo clearance time for compliant Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) consignments from two hours to one hour, further reinforcing its reputation as one of the Service’s most technology-driven commands.

According to him, the successful deployment of the MIS File Tracker will strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service’s drive towards a paperless and more efficient administrative system.

He described the innovation as another bold step in sustaining the Nigeria Customs Service’s position as one of Africa’s leading Customs administrations, adding that PTML would ensure the platform’s successful transition from pilot deployment to nationwide implementation.

The launch of the MIS File Tracker adds to a growing list of digital reforms introduced under the current Customs leadership, as the Service continues to leverage technology to improve internal administration, facilitate legitimate trade, strengthen transparency and deliver more efficient services to stakeholders.
