Oyo Chief Imam, DSS strengthen partnership on security, peaceful coexistence

The Grand Chief Imam of Oyo Land, Bilal Husayn Akinola Akeugberu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Muslim community to supporting security agencies in maintaining peace and stability.

The Chief Imam made the pledge on Tuesday April 21, 2016 when he paid a courtesy visit to the Director of the Department of State Services(DSS) in Oyo State, Usman Biu, towards strengthening collaboration between religious institutions and security agencies.

Accompanied by Ibrahim Agunbiade, the Chief Imam emphasised the critical role of religious leaders in promoting unity and supporting lawful authorities in addressing emerging security challenges.

He noted that sustained engagement between faith-based organisations and security agencies is essential to fostering trust, preventing conflict, and ensuring lasting peace within communities.

“The Muslim community in Oyo Land remains committed to working closely with security agencies to promote harmony and stability,” he said, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding society.

In his response, the DSS Director commended the leadership of the Chief Imam for promoting peaceful coexistence and unity among residents. He assured the delegation of the agency’s continued dedication to protecting lives and property across the state.

Biu also encouraged ongoing dialogue with community leaders, noting that such collaboration enhances intelligence gathering and strengthens the overall security framework.

The meeting underscores growing recognition of the role of religious institutions in supporting security architecture at the grassroots level, with both parties expressing commitment to sustained partnership in advancing peace and stability in Oyo State.
