Ogun customs makes huge seizures in 36days.
…Commends CG for gift of new hilux vehicles
… Assures of continuous engagement with state govt, community leaders, youths

The Ogun 1 area Command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NSC), has made very huge seizers of over N2 billion in 36 days of assumption of office of the new controller despite border closure.
Comptroller Dera Nnadi, controller of the command stated this on Wednesday 24, November while taking journalists through the siezed items which include Seven Thousand Three Hundred and Eleven (7311) bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice at the command headquarters Idiroko.

Nnadi who assumed duty at the command on 18 October, 2021 said the homogious seizure which is equivalent of 12 trailer loads of foreign parboiled rice of 50kg each, further
translating to 365, 550 kg or 365.55 metric tons of foreign
parboiled rice was a major win to the command and a boost to the federal government’s rice policy.
“The above emphasis is deliberate to show that this quantity of rice,
if allowed into the Nigerian market will affect the federal
government rice policy negatively.
“Recall that a rice cooperative
farm in Ogun State (specifically at Imeko Afon) with the active
support of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Federal Government and
World Bank just last week harvested 2600 metric tons of paddy,” Nnadi emphasized.
The controller who expressed his assertiveness stated “This is major win for the Command as we celebrate these farmers
who are testimonies and justification of the Service anti-smuggling
effort in support of local rice productions in the country.’
Other seizures recorded in their various quantities during the same period include:12 kegs of 25 litres which is equivalent to 300 litres, 20 units of used vehicles (means of conveyance), 20 units of motorcycle, 4 bales of 25kg each used clothing. 26 sacks of Used shoes, cannabis sativa, 124 sacks (booksize) & 165 wraps(Cocoanut size) weighing 637 kg. Used tyres.
Also seized are 2 bundles and 4 pieces with rims. 831 kegs of 25 litres each amounting to 20,775 litres of PMS. 810 cartons of Frozen poultry products, used toys and 4 sacks.The cumulative duty paid value (DPV) for all the above seizures
amounted to One Hundred and Seventy-Two Million, Nine Hundred and Ninety-Nine Thousand, Three Hundred and Eighty-Seven Naira and Zero Kobo (#172,999,387.00).
Comp. Nnadi thanked the Comptroller General of Customs and the Management for their kind
consideration of him for the position, further extended appreciation for the gift of 10
units of brand new Toyota Hilux vehicles to the command.
Gift of the vehicles he described as kind consideration, demonstration of Management support and encouragement to the Command.
“This gesture will no doubt
enhance our operation and improve our performance part of
which we will share with you as we progress.
Nnadi restated that the border closure policy subsists, assured of good working relationship with traditional rulers and youths, cautions against smuggling as the command is committed to uncovering every act of illegality as well as inflict attendant gross financial injury.
“We have also been engaging royal fathers of the state, haveappealed to them to warn their subjects to desist from smuggling and attacks on Customs personnel.
“Let me use this medium to
thank them for accepting to continuously help in this direction.
“We are also reaching out to the state governor who is the chief
security officer of the state in this direction and the future looks
mutually very rewarding for Nigerian Customs Service and the
state.
“Subsequently, let me once more warn smugglers and criminal
elements in the state that we shall definitely uncover every illegal
act of theirs, make arrest and inflict gross financial injury on such ventures and their perpetuators.
“The continuous attacks on Customs and other
security operatives in the state by these unpatriotic people will not
deter us from sustaining the onslaught on their smuggling
activities. We are determined more than ever before to carry out
our anti- smuggling operations without let or hindrance.
“May I at this point once again thank and appreciate our
critical stakeholders, members of the press, partner security
agencies and traditional rulers/royal fathers for their continuous
collaborative efforts and synergy with the Service while carrying out our statutory mandate in the state.” Comp. Nnadi concluded
