The Sunday arrest and detention of Imo State born activist and state chairman of National Youth Alliance (NYA) Mr. Theodore Chinonso Uba (Nonsonkwa) in a alleged uncivilized manner has continued to attract condemnation.

The uncouth manner of arrest of NonsoNkwa on October 20, 2024 the NYA President Ambassador Aliyu Bin Abbas condemned in a very strong terms as but a ‘watery’ reason for arrest, therefore posited to the Imo State Government and Police Command to be prepared to arrest all youth if Nonsonkwa is not released unconditionally.

In a statement issued on Monday, October 21, 2024, made available to Nation Update, NYA argued that there are constitutional ways which includes police inviting NonsoNkwa rather than resorting to ‘abducting’ him by plainclothes operatives if actually he had committed any offense.

The NYA release therefore described the Imo State Police Command’s statement, signed by ASP Okoye Henry, as “watery”.

It allegedly insisted that Nonsonkwa is being persecuted for advocating human rights protection and good governance through his radio program and social media broadcasts.

The Police Command claimed Nonsonkwa’s arrest was due to allegations of “cyberstalking, character defamation, misinformation, and inciting civil unrest” related to the burning of the National Open University Study Center in Nsu, Ehime Mbano LGA, on September 30, 2024.
