MWUN, SSASCFA join forces for maritime industry development

The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening ties with the Senior Staff Association of Shipping, Clearing & Forwarding Agency (SSASCFA) to drive growth and development in the maritime sector.

President-General of MWUN, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, along with his executives while receiving the leadership of SSASCFA at its headquarters in Osho Drive, Olodo Apapa, Lagos on Wednesday have the assurance for cooperation.

In an e-signed release signed by Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna made available to Nationupdate, Comrade Bunu thanked Comrade Harrison for visiting, saying it was a timely gesture that honoured the Union. He noted that MWUN represents the junior staff in shipping, and there has been a disconnect between the two shipping arms.

Bunu explained that some shipping companies have MWUN but not SSASCFA, creating a gap that hinders industry growth.

He revealed that to address this, both unions will work together on membership drives and unionizing shipping outfits, strengthening both organisations and benefiting employees and employers.

Comrade Abi assured SSASCFA of his commitment to strengthening ties, saying the Union supports rekindling their relationship for mutual benefits and industry progress.

He encouraged Comrade Harrison, a personal friend, to reach out anytime, promising the Union’s open door. Abi also promised to visit SSASCFA soon to further their discussions.

The SSASCFA PG said he’s there to revive the longtime relationship with MWUN, saying they can’t operate alone. He wants to strengthen ties for efficiency, praising MWUN’s current leadership and congratulating them on their election win.
