MWUN, Melsmore Marine Ltd sign landmark deal for workers’ remuneration, welfare

Melsmore Marine Limited and the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) have signed a Collective Bargaining Agreement(CBA) on increase of workers’ pay to a living wage, considering Nigeria’s current living standards.

The leadership of MWUN under Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, during the dotting of the lines for the CBA with management of Melsmore Ltd at thier office at Victoria Island this Monday said this is a landmark achievement in the best interest of Melsmore Workers.

Bunu further buttressed his disposition that no good industrial firm will neglect the welfare of its workers, and moral ethics of its status quo.

In an e-signed release by Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media, MWUN, Comrade Bunu praised Melsmore Ltd’s management for understanding the importance of workers’ welfare, stating it’s crucial for achieving optimum output and ensuring employer’s growth.

Bunu a veteran sailor and maritime labour leader assured Melsmore management of a continued harmonious relationship, citing the increased remuneration of workers to a living wage, considering Nigeria’s current living standards, aimed at boosting workers’ spirit and output.

He thanked Melsmore management for listening to the union, resulting in this development, and hoped the partnership would flourish in the maritime sector.
