The approval for the return was granted by the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu as requested for by the Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi.

Umahi had on the 13th of August 2020 while inaugurating the Ebonyi State Community Policing Advisory Committees at Ecumenical centre Abakaliki said he do not know who smuggled the state to the new Zone 13 Police command, Ukpo.
He said Ebonyi was comfortable with Zone 9 located in Umuahia, stated that bad road from Ebonyi to Ukpo, long distance and insecurity as some of the reasons for the insistence on remaining in Zone 9.
“I have a little disagreement with the AIG, zone 13 in Awka; we cannot belong to Awka. You must know your level to succeed in life. I moved our people from Calabar to Umuahia, I don’t know who smuggled us back to Awka; I have no idea, we cannot be in Awka
“One, the roads; two, insecurity, our people going there; three is so much money around that place, we don’t have. Let us be in Umuahia with our little money. We are in Umuahia, we cannot go to Nnewi,” Umahi insisted.
The Governor therefore thanked the IGP for his quick response, while noting his commitment in the security of lives and property of Ebonyians and beyond.
