Engr Sarat Braimah: NIWA Amazon bags ‘most influential woman’ at CBW-Africa Award

The Lagos Area Manager, National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) Engineer Sarat Braimah, has been honored with the ‘Most Influential Woman in Maritime’ Award by the Commonwealth Business Women Africa (CBW-Africa).

The prestigious award, presented at a ceremony held at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos, recognizes Braimah’s outstanding contributions to the maritime sector, her exemplary leadership, and her role as an inspiration to young women across Nigeria.

As the first female Area Manager of NIWA in Lagos, her transformative leadership has significantly impacted the industry, earning her respect from key stakeholders and the NIWA management, highlighted her role model figure for aspiring young female persons in Nigeria and her effectual human resource management.

Accepting the award, Engineer Braimah expressed her gratitude, reaffirming commitment to mentoring young individuals—especially women—into the maritime sector.

She said, “Thank you, CBW-Africa. I pray that our women in service to Nigeria and Africa remain steadfast and resilient. Nigeria needs our women, and I hope they continue to lead the way positively.”

Braimah’s influence in the industry continues to rise in leaps and bounds, having been nominated for the ‘Maritime Woman of the Year Award 2024’ by the Maritime Industry Merit Award (MIMA) committee.

Alongside other nominees, the award presentation is slated for April 15, 2025, at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos.
