Eid Maulud: Bunu urges Nigerians to reject violence, embrace peaceful coexistence

The President-General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has felicitated Muslims in Nigeria and across the world on the occasion of Eid Maulud, urging Nigerians to embrace the virtues of peace, love, tolerance and unity preached by Prophet Muhammad.

Bunu, in a goodwill message issued by the Head of Media, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, called on Muslims and other Nigerians to reflect on the teachings and exemplary life of Prophet Muhammad, particularly at a time the country is facing security, economic and political challenges.

He urged Nigerians to emulate the Prophet’s message of compassion, peaceful coexistence and love for one another, stressing that the values remained essential to building a peaceful and united nation.

The MWUN leader also called on Nigerians to approach forthcoming elections with maturity and a commitment to peace, urging politicians, political parties and their supporters to reject violence and actions capable of deepening divisions in the country.

Bunu expressed concern over the killings, displacement, abductions and other forms of violence affecting communities in different parts of Nigeria, describing the situation as unacceptable in a country whose citizens should be able to live together without fear.

He said Nigerians should look beyond ethnic, religious and linguistic differences and recognise their shared humanity and common destiny.

According to him, the teachings of Islam emphasise mercy, compassion and peaceful coexistence, values which he said Nigerians should demonstrate in their relationships with one another, particularly during the country’s current political climate.

The MWUN President-General also commended Nigerians for their resilience in the face of economic hardship, insecurity, terrorism and kidnapping, expressing optimism that the country would overcome its current challenges and experience greater peace, progress and prosperity.

He urged Nigerians not to lose hope, assuring that sustained unity, collective responsibility and commitment to peaceful coexistence would help create a better future for the country.

Bunu wished Muslims across Nigeria and the world a peaceful and fulfilling Eid Maulud celebration, while calling on all Nigerians to use the occasion to renew their commitment to peace, love and national unity.
