Eid-el-Kabir: MWUN President calls on govt to ease Nigerians’ suffering

The President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Francis Bunu Abi, has called on governments at all levels to intensify efforts toward addressing the economic hardship confronting Nigerians as Muslims across the country celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival.

Bunu made the appeal in a Sallah message released through the union’s Head of Media, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, where he expressed concern over the rising cost of living, insecurity, and declining living standards affecting many citizens.

The labour leader noted that while Nigerians have continued to demonstrate resilience and patience in difficult times, there was an urgent need for practical measures aimed at easing the suffering of the people.

According to him, many families are currently battling economic challenges that have made survival increasingly difficult, stressing that governments must place greater priority on policies that directly improve the welfare of ordinary citizens.

“The living condition of many Nigerians is below average, and government must continue to look into the plight of the people so life can become more meaningful for the average citizen struggling for survival,” he stated.

Bunu said the Eid-el-Kabir celebration should serve as a period for reflection, compassion, sacrifice, and renewed commitment toward national unity and peaceful coexistence.

He commended Muslim faithful for their patience, tolerance, and faith despite the security and economic challenges confronting parts of the country.

The MWUN President also acknowledged efforts by the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address insecurity and stabilise the economy, expressing hope that ongoing reforms would eventually produce positive results for Nigerians.

He, however, stressed the need for more people-oriented interventions capable of cushioning the effects of inflation and economic pressure on workers and vulnerable citizens.

Bunu urged Nigerians to continue promoting peace, love, and religious harmony during and after the Sallah celebrations, noting that national development can only thrive in an atmosphere of unity and mutual understanding.

He also appealed to citizens not to lose hope, saying the country would overcome its current challenges through collective sacrifice, prayers, and responsible leadership.

The maritime union leader concluded by wishing Muslims and all Nigerians a peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebration and prayed for lasting peace, stability, and economic recovery across the country.
