Edo APC gov’ship Primaries: Obaseki screened at last

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, was on Wednesday, June 10, 2020.at about 8:10pm screened by the Screening Committee of  the All Progressives Congress (APC) at Abuja.

Obaseki was screened along with other aspirants namely Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi, Hon. Osaro Obaze, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and Dr Pius Odubu.

Earlier in the day at about  1:10pm, in a release from the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr Crusoe Osagie,  the governor had arrived at the National Secretariat of the party for screening but the committee was not ready.

He state, “The governor arrived early but the screening committee was not ready. He was given the options to either wait for one hour or if he had an appointment to keep, he could go and call them to know if they were ready.

“The governor, who had a Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) meeting, went for the meeting and called when he was done, but the members of the screening committee did not pick their phones.”

Obaseki, the incumbent governor of Edo state is one of the governorship aspirants seeking the ticket of the APC along with the other screened aspirants.

The Seven -man Screening Committee headed by Prof. Jonathan Ayuba was set up by the APC National Working Committee (NWC) to screen candidates seeking to fly the flag of the party in the forthcoming Edo gubernatorial election.

The committee has till Thursday the 11th of June to  sit and conclude the two -day exercise at the party secretariat hall, Abuja.

The Chairman of the Screening Committee, Prof. Ayuba had assured the general public  that his team would ensure due diligence in the screening process.

He therefore urged journalists covering the exercise to be factual in the reportage of the screening, stated that his committee should not be mistaken to that of a judicial panel of enquiry that has the final say on the fate of the aspirants.
