Adeyanju at 60: Bunu applauds former MWUN president-general’s legacy

The President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has congratulated the Union’s President-General Emeritus and Chairman of its Board of Trustees, Comrade (Prince) Dr. Adewale Adeyanju, on his birthday.

 

Adeyanju, whose birthday falls on October 1, Nigeria’s Independence Day, was described by Bunu as an astute labour leader, administrator and maritime expert whose wealth of experience has contributed significantly to the development of the Union and the broader labour movement.

 

In a statement e-signed by the Head of Media, MWUN, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Bunu described Adeyanju as a quintessential leader with an impressive reservoir of knowledge and experience in labour administration.

According to him, Adeyanju’s expertise and leadership experience have continued to make him relevant in the affairs of the Union and the wider Nigerian labour movement.

Bunu, who expressed his admiration for the former President-General, said he had personally benefited from Adeyanju’s wealth of knowledge, particularly in the administration and management of the Union.

 

He noted that Adeyanju’s years of service as President-General provided a solid foundation for the current leadership, adding that the knowledge and administrative experience he transferred to his successor had contributed to the effective running of the Union.

 

The MWUN President-General also commended the team of administrators Adeyanju left behind, describing them as proactive and capable of contributing meaningfully to the continued growth and development of the Union.

He said the capacity of the current executive team was not in doubt, stressing that the leadership remained committed to building on the achievements recorded under previous administrations.

Bunu described Adeyanju as a thoroughbred administrator and labour leader worthy of emulation, while acknowledging the enduring legacy he left in the Union.

 

He said the coincidence of Adeyanju’s birthday with Nigeria’s Independence Day was particularly symbolic, noting that October 1 represents freedom and a new beginning for the country.

 

The MWUN leader thanked Adeyanju for his contributions to the Union and expressed confidence that the present administration would continue from where he stopped while working towards a stronger, more prosperous and united organisation.

Bunu further acknowledged Adeyanju’s service to the labour movement, noting his role as Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and President of the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF), London.

 

He said Adeyanju had served the Union meritoriously and remained an important figure whose experience and contributions would continue to be valued.

Bunu wished Adeyanju a happy birthday, good health and continued success, assuring him that the leadership of MWUN would continue to uphold the values and legacy of service he left behind.
