I want to leave a Union that is globally accepted behind – Adeyanju

The President General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Adewale Adeyanju has said he wants to leave a union that will recognised and respected behind by the time he completes his eight years as PG of the union.

He said this when members of the seafarers and Dockworkers branch endorsed his candidature for second term as the boss of the organisation.

Recall that the election of the national executives of the he union has been slated for the month of March

He added that his efforts all through his tenure is to make the union acceptable across the globe.

He said this on the heels of the division and eventual fight that used to accentuate previous elections of the union.

Recall that Adeyanju has been severally praised for bringing unity into the union by reconciling warring parties so much that for the first time in the history of the union, all the four branches have come together to endorse only one candidate.

Adeyanju said this had been his dream adding “For you to achieve peace, you must understand the principles of forgiving anyone that offends you,”

“I want to advise anyone that will be aspiring for the he seat of the President General not to be tribalistic.

“The seat is not sectional but national. So, such a person must be able to carry everyone along for unison and oneness,” he quipped.

In his acceptance speech, he said he is going to work to complete some of the welfare negotiatiins he could not complete in his first tenure in office.

He therefore called on all members of the union to Vail him with information on areas yet to be addressed by the union in the welfare package for the members.

“I am going to complete the areas that I am yet to touch in terms of welfare of workers. So, I want you people to give me necessary information and advice on areas that we need to touch.
