AIG Oko takes helm at maritime police, vows to build on predecessors’ Legacies

Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Chinedu Oko has assumed duty as the 23rd head of the Nigeria Police Force’s Maritime Police Headquarters Annex, Obalende, Lagos succeeding AIG Musa Yusuf Garba who was redeployed to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Kaduna.

A seasoned and experienced officer with over 30 years of service took over on Thursday 11 September, 2025, AIG Oko who hails from Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State has held various key roles in the police force including Commissioner of Police in FCID Lagos.

In a release by ASP Adebayo Rasheed, Police Public Relations Officer of the command made available to Nationupdate further revealed that the AIG holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Literary Studies from the University of Calabar

A versatile and accomplished police administrator, AIG Oko, psc, has attended several intelligence courses both locally and internationally, and notably served as the pioneer facilitator at Police Intelligence School, Enugu.

Until his current posting as AIG Maritime, he served as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Department of Logistics and Supply, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Oko has committed to advancing the Maritime Police Command’s objectives by building on the achievements of his predecessors, fostering deeper partnerships with maritime stakeholders, and enhancing the Command’s capacity to secure Nigeria’s maritime interests and promote effective policing of the country’s blue economy.

He pledges to enhance collaboration with maritime stakeholders and bolster security in Nigeria’s maritime domain, aligning with Inspector-General of Police IGP Kayode Egbetokun’s vision.
